Kia EV9, which we met as a concept in 2019, will be launched this year with the flagship badge of the electric product range.
Bringing the “Car of the Year in Europe” award to its home for 2022 with the EV6, Kia announced with concrete steps that it had entered a brand new era as a brand with the next generation Niro. The South Korean manufacturer, whose brand perception has also reached a whole new level in this new period, clearly puts on the table its claim to grab a share from premium brands in the upper segments, while maintaining its accessible model range in the lower segment. The Kia EV9, which will be positioned above the EV6 in these dynamics we mentioned, is perhaps a brand new bar for expectations. Due to Turkish designer Berk Erner’s signature during the design process, EV9, which will be the focus of extra attention for us, is moved to the production line by staying mostly loyal to the concept version introduced in November 2019. The EV9 will be one of the masterpieces in the new approach of Design Chief Karim Habib, who has an important role in the rise of Kia.

Before diving into the details about the EV9, it’s nearly impossible to get past the design point without paying extra attention. The “Tiger Nose” design face, which the South Korean manufacturer has been using for many years and which we think best suits the Stinger GT, evolves as the “Digital tiger face” with the EV9. The design approach of the daytime running lights used in the model is inspired by star maps. In this new design approach, in addition to the minimalist and plain lines, the angles that go into the third dimension do not go unnoticed. Dimensionally, the EV9, which is a flagship with the Telluride offered by Kia in the American market, takes off as a 7-seater SUV with the third row in its cockpit. The product range developed on the E-GMP platform, which we know from the electric models of the Hyundai-Kia duo, will bring along the high-level capabilities of the infrastructure in parallel.

For now, the Kia EV9, whose technical details such as range and engine have not been shared, continues to expect between 480 kilometers and 540 kilometers on the range side. One of the most important supports of the platform, which will be used in the family, will be fast charging. Thanks to the support that the brand describes as the transition to the new generation in fast charging, it will be possible to reach 80 percent filling level from 10 percent in 30 minutes. It is especially worth noting that a range of 100 kilometers can be achieved with a 6-minute ultra-fast charge. Together with the EV6 peak versions, it has the potential to be an alternative to important names such as BMW iX and Mercedes EQS.
