In June 2023, the Swedish Transport Administration was commissioned by the government to investigate the conditions for a reserve port on Gotland. The government states that if the port in Visby cannot be used for any reason, there is no adequate alternative, which for reasons of preparedness, among other things, is a restriction that the government deems to be unsatisfactory.
– The port has an advantageous location from a total defense perspective and reasonable crossing times to both Nynäshamn and Oskarshamn. Necessary measures in the port are also deemed feasible, says Anna Fällbom, responsible investigator at the Swedish Transport Administration, in a press release.
