Jonna Sundling and Emma Ribom hit back at the Norwegian outburst about rival Kristine Stavå’s Skistad: “Why do you say that?”

Three really good sprinters, but who is the best?
Kristine Stavås Skistad, thinks the Norwegian national team coach Stig Rune Kveen.
– I think it’s a bit crazy to say, says sprint star Emma Ribom to Expressen.

Sweden has been very successful in sprinting on the women’s side in recent seasons. At the same time, the branch has grown to become a bit of a battle between Sweden and Norway.

The sprint queens

Jonna Sundling, Emma Ribom, Lynn Svahn, Maja Dahlqvist and Frida Karlsson are the ones who have been the best of the Swedes in sprints in recent years. This season, it has mainly been the first three who have impressed. There has really only been one skater who has been able to challenge.

After his incredible breakthrough at a young age, he almost disappeared Kristine Stavå’s Ski City. But last season the Norwegian was suddenly back in great form and won several sprints in the World Cup. This season she is the only non-Swedish skater to win a sprint on the women’s side, which she did during the World Cup in Trondheim.

Norwegian performance

But it is Sweden that won the remaining sprints of the season. Despite that, Stavås Skistad’s coach in the national team believes, Stig Rune Kveenthat it is the Norwegian who is the world’s best sprinter right now.
– The only reason why she lost to the Swede is because she was pitted against several of them at the same time. If she faced them one on one, she would win against them all. Every time, says Kveen to Expressen.

Jonna Sundling does not agree with that.
– You have to believe in what you do and your actives… but then I don’t know why you choose to say that. It’s not really relevant if she beats us one on one either, because we don’t ride like that. Kristine is a good sprinter, but many of us are, she tells the evening newspaper.

Strikes back

Neither does Emma Ribom, who starts laughing when she hears Kveen’s plan.
– I don’t know what to say… I think it’s a bit clumsy. I don’t think she beats us every time and then it’s like this, we are six skaters in each heat and regardless of nation, everyone is fighting to be first. And from what I remember, it was Jonna (Sundling) who won WC and Olympic gold most recently, says Ribom.
