Joni Mäki has been at a good pace this season in the sprints of traditional skiing, but has not yet found the ability to break free. Mäki was only 26th in the sprint qualifying for freestyle skiing in Davos and his career ended immediately in the heats.

– The course of the second round was quite easy. The speed wasn’t quite enough today, Mäki told Urheilu.

Mäki had a very tough match, as they included, among others, Norway Johannes Hösflot Kläbo and Even Northug. The Finnish sprinter stated that there were only bad options available.

– I took it the worse for it then.

Mäki will no longer participate in the 20 km race on Sunday, so the Davos sprint was his last race this year. Mäki will also miss the Tour de Ski and will probably start the next time at the beginning of January in the Scandinavian Cup in Rovaniemi.

– Let’s practice and come back stronger. The emphasis is on the basics. I’m trying to improve my fitness so that I can get the ability to break away and speed up skiing, Mäki said and assured that the stress injury that bothered me in the fall is no longer a problem.

– Now I’ve been able to run for a week. Yes, it starts working from there.
