Janne Andersson breaks the silence after Olof Mellberg and everyone nobbed Sweden – first words: “It’s scary”

No one wants to take over as national team captain for the Swedish national team.
Now Janne Andersson breaks the silence about his successor in Blågult.
– It surprises me, he admits to Hallandsposten.

Already in November it was clear that Jan Andersson would resign as national team captain. Since then, the search for a coach has been in full swing at the Swedish Football Association, SvFF, but no one can claim that it has gone particularly well.

Nobbar Sweden

Graham Potter have declined, Per-Mathias Högmo have declined, Olof Mellberg have refused and now also have recently Ole Gunnar Solskjaer turned down the vacant national team captain’s job in Blågult. Now Janne breaks the silence after leaving the national team and admits that no one asked him for advice.

And that really surprises the 61-year-old.
– I have worked under Karl-Erik Nilsson and Håkan Sjöstrand. Now others are leading that process and have not been very curious about what I thought. It is perhaps a little surprising. I had expected more, but the new management have good reasons for it and find their own way forward, he says to the local newspaper Hallandsposten.

Janne surprised

Compared to SvFF, Janne Andersson has had a significantly calmer everyday life after both parties went their separate ways when Sweden failed to qualify for the football European Championship in 2024. Although it is a bit scary to be unemployed right now.
– The situation I am in now is both a little scary but exciting at the same time. The plan going forward is to get started as a football coach again, but today I have nothing on the table, he says in the interview.

Andersson has reached the age of 61 but still does not feel finished with football after leaving Blågult. Hallänningen still believes he has more to give in the sport.
– I feel I have a number of years left as a coach, but I have been spoiled by having, in my opinion, the best job in the world as Swedish national team captain. So if I’m going to have something new, it really has to be right, he says to the local newspaper.
