The campaign for the September 2 municipal and regional elections kicks off on Friday August 25 in Côte d’Ivoire. The particularity during this year is the strong presence of independent candidates. In all, 341 independent candidates were validated by the Independent Electoral Commission. But the main political parties see these candidacies as negative and have decided to sanction, or even exclude from their parties, candidates perceived as dissidents.
