“It’s so incredibly frustrating”

Stina Nilsson enters a new season as a biathlete.
And she is full of self-criticism after the disappointment last year.
– I want to do myself justice, she admits to DN.

This weekend starts Stina Nilsson her fourth season as a biathlete and the expectation is that it will be her very best so far. In the initial years after switching from cross-country skiing, the Swede has taken big steps forward, but last year’s season was a big step backwards.

Stina’s self-criticism

She was never better than 33rd at the World Cup and that didn’t suit Nilsson at all. Neither the shooting nor the skating reached the level required to succeed in making an impression.

Instead, Stina was poked both in the World Cup and in the Biathlon World Cup. Now it is a brutally honest and self-critical 30-year-old who aims for revenge next season.
– It is of course frustrating when you spend so much time, to know that some of what you spend is wrong in the whole, she admits in an interview with Dagens Nyheter.
– It’s so frustrating when you don’t know exactly what it is. You get to discuss with people around you what could be the reason, but nobody has the exact answer, so it’s a bit frustrating, but it’s also part of being an athlete. I know it’s part of the game.

Nilsson admits

Last season was not good at all, she herself is very aware of that. The feeling during the season was not good at all and she does not want to be part of that again.
– I still felt it when I left. As a person, I can still feel that “right now I’m going fast, dammit!” but last year I felt “right now I’m not going fast”. And in the end I didn’t shoot well either, she says in the interview.
– As a person, I am either up here or down here. But I experienced last year that I was very rarely up here, if ever.

On Saturday it is time for the Swedish premiere in Idre and in two weeks the big world cup premiere awaits in Östersund. Stina Nilsson has clear goals for the coming winter season.
– I want to be one of those who get to go to the World Cup. It’s very tight about places, but I don’t just want to be there, but also do well, do myself justice and feel that the work I’ve done this summer is working, she tells the daily newspaper.
– I know how it must feel when I do well. I hope that feeling will appear.
