“It’s hard to grasp”

Several countries in the European Championships have been hit hard by covid-19.
Now a decision within the Swedish national team is seen by Olof Lundh.
“It is difficult to grasp”, writes the TV4 profile.

Sweden got 1-1 in the European Championship premiere against the Netherlands, but in recent days the reporting has rather been about disease cases in the national teams during the championship. Midfielder Jackie Gronen played 90 minutes against Sweden, and was subsequently tested positive for covid-19.

Meets relatives

In Sweden, all tests have returned negative, but also in England, positive tests have been carried out, and there is great concern among all national teams that the infection will pick up speed. But in Sweden no major measures have been taken.

On Monday, the Swedish national team had a lunch with relatives of the players – and in total there were about 20 people on site to meet the players. However, the national team believes that it is worth the risk, which is described as small.

– We take the low risk for this, being able to meet their loved ones can have a positive effect as well. Precisely these measures have meant that we minimize the risk.

“Hard to grasp”

But not everyone agrees. The national team’s decision has been questioned, not least by TV4 journalist Olof Lundh, who writes that the decision “is difficult to grasp”.

“Do you want to risk European Championship success for a lunch? I understand that the plans have been around for a long time, but you have to be able to change when the surroundings change “, you write a column on Fotbollskanalen.

Above all, Olof Lundh highlights the fact that it is not the disease itself that is the fear – but that Sweden can be affected sportingly. If you test positive, you are not allowed to play, just as the situation has been during all championships in recent years.

“To jeopardize the gold hunt in England by not tightening the rules and approach is difficult to understand,” writes Lundh.
