An MP from the far-right party Fratelli d’Italia, Emanuele Pozzolo, 38, is the subject of a judicial investigation for having brought a 22 caliber pistol to a New Year’s Eve party which injured one of the guests, the son-in-law of a bodyguard of the Secretary of State, in the leg. Emanuele Pozzolo, renamed by the Italian press “ the pistolero deputy » claims that the shot went off accidentally, says the RFI correspondent in Rome, Anne le Nir. Although members of Fratelli d’Italia, the head of government’s party, believe that the incident should be classified as news items, the affair takes a political turn. For the entire opposition, Pozzolo’s behavior was totally irresponsible and disrespectful of institutional rules. Therefore, he should resign from his parliamentary duties.

Giorgia Meloni has not yet publicly commented on the facts. But, according to the daily Il Corriere della Serra, she would be very embarrassed and would consider suspending, or even excluding, from her party the sulphurous MP, known for his pro-gun, anti-vax and sexist positions.
