The extra billions for care that the government promised is a “welcome addition”, according to SKR.

– Now it is important that the money is paid out, preferably tomorrow, says Anders Henriksson (S), chairman of SKR.

The extra six billion that the government will give to the regions in the spring amendment budget will primarily go to avoid general layoffs of healthcare personnel, according to Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson (M).

Anders Henriksson (S), chairman of the organization Sweden’s municipalities and regions (SKR) is happy about the announcement.

– We have demanded early notification of supplements and we got that now. Now it is important that the money is paid out, preferably tomorrow, he says.

SKR has previously presented calculations that the regions will run a deficit of 24 billion in 2024. When asked if the six billion is enough, Anders Henriksson replies that they are a welcome addition.

– But that does not mean that the regions do not need to take other measures. They already do and will continue to do so. All regions are looking at how they can improve efficiency and find new smart ways of working. But puts patient safety and staff working environment first, he says.

During the press conference, both Ulf Kristersson and Minister of Economic Affairs Ebba Bush (KD) emphasized that the regions must focus more on their core business. At the same time, the government must strengthen the financial review of the regions.

– I don’t know more than what was said at the press conference about what it means, but the regions are constantly working to improve efficiency and meet the needs of the future.

The government’s spring amendment budget will be presented in its entirety on April 15.
