“It hurts the heart”

Linn Svahn has been responsible for an absolutely matchless season.
But after the end of the World Cup, she now admits the disappointment.
– It hurts the heart, it was terrible, she says to SVT.

After struggling with two years of problems could Lynn Svahn finally get to celebrate this winter. The 24-year-old has left double operations, tough injuries and long rehabilitation behind and is now back at the top of the world again.

Svahn’s great success

During this year’s Tour de Ski, things really loosened up for the Swede who on December 30 won the sprint in Toblach and broke a victory drought of over 1,000 days. The feeling of finally getting to win again attracted something within Svahn and since then the victories have lined up during the beginning of 2024.

The sprint specialist bagged six individual World Cup victories, including one distance race, and three World Cup relay wins over the course of two months. Out of nowhere, she suddenly turned into a real contender for the overall World Cup victory.

Linn’s disappointment

Before the last World Cup weekend in Falun, Svahn had a great opportunity to reach the overall Jessie Diggins and it got even better when the Swede came second in the sprint. But the weekend was a pure nightmare for Linn and when she has to sum up the season, it is precisely the last two races that put a damper on the whole winter.

Because after a Swedish selection fiasco, Linn Svahn missed out on the overall World Cup title.
– It was two terrible results days. It hurts a little in the heart that it will be this weekend when there is so much at stake. I’ve felt that… Yes, I’ve had that hunger to go for it and fight to the end for it, a distressed Linn admits to SVT.
– It feels like I’ve done what I could, I’ve really dug deep for it. But it wasn’t our weekend.

Svahn was second in the overall world cup but still won the sprint cup and can look back on an absolutely brilliant season. Next winter, she will try to chase her very first championship medal at the senior level.
