Stéphane Amar: I am in the Katamonim neighborhood, south of Jerusalem…

Charlotte Baris: To start this episode, I present to you Stéphane Amar, the correspondent for L’Express in Israel.

Stéphane Amar: It is a working-class neighborhood that is gradually transforming with gentrification.

Charlotte Baris: If Stéphane went to this neighborhood of Jerusalem for a report, it is because it is a bastion of support for Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

Stéphane Amar: Here, the Likud, the ruling party, records its best scores on a national scale and the mention of Benjamin Netanyahu inevitably arouses laudatory comments. We knew the Trumpists, and here they are the “Bibists”!

Charlotte Baris: The “Bibistes”, for the nickname “Bibi” given to the Prime Minister by his supporters

Stéphane Amar: As for Trump, according to the “Bibistes”, Netanyahu is a victim of the deep state: he is forgiven for the security failure of October 7. What I’m told: “He’s responsible, that’s obvious, because he’s the boss, but he’s like a factory director who trusts his managers. They did anything in assuring him that everything was fine and he believed them. The real culprits are the intelligence services and the general staff. It’s the elite who got us into this mess.” According to them, “the media and judges hate him because he wants to pursue real right-wing politics.” Here, we support its ability to resist international pressure and its combativeness against Hamas and encourage it to continue the war.

Charlotte Baris: This speech of support is becoming increasingly rare in the country…

Stéphane Amar: The “Bibistes” are becoming a minority. Netanyahu’s popularity is plummeting. Now, even part of the traditional Likud electorate is turning away from the Prime Minister. There are anti-Netanyahu rallies.

Charlotte Baris: Benjamin Netanyahu is increasingly isolated and yet he is at the center of the entire war. In this episode of La Loupe, we tell you the journey of the powerful Israeli Prime Minister, on whom the future of the conflict in the Middle East rests…
