Iran Condemns Peace Prize: ‘Biased’

“We condemn this biased and political act,” said Nasser Kanani, a spokesman for Iran’s foreign ministry, in a statement.

Mohammadi has been sentenced to many years in prison in Iran for his fight for democracy, for women’s rights and against keeping political prisoners in custody without trial.

She is currently incarcerated in Evin Prison in Iran’s capital, Tehran. There, the prisoners are regularly subjected to torture, long-term isolation, beatings and are denied medical care, according to Amnesty International, among others.

“We note that the Nobel Committee awarded the Peace Prize to a person who has been convicted of repeated violations of laws and criminal acts,” said Nasser Kanani.
