Investigation launched into visa approval with fake documents in Germany

In the news in the German media, it was stated that the Berlin Prosecutor’s Office launched an investigation into the allegations that “high-level officials of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs ordered the German Embassy in Pakistan to allow 14-year-old Afghan Muhammad Ali G. to enter the country despite his fake passport and unknown identity.”

Last year, it emerged that senior officials of the German Foreign Ministry’s department responsible for visas had instructed staff of the German Embassy in Islamabad (Pakistan) to allow the alleged Afghan to enter Germany, despite his fake passport and uncertain identity.

Employees of the embassy protested this instruction, which they thought was illegal, expressing that they had significant doubts about the applicant’s story.

After the incident became public at the end of February this year, a former Ministry of Interior employee filed a criminal complaint against the officials of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The prosecutor’s office then started an investigation against the authorities on the charge of “perverting justice” and decided to examine the allegations.

As of March 31, a total of 385,000 Afghans live in Germany. (AA)
