Intel introduced its 14th Generation desktop processors

Intel’s 14th Generation CPU‘s came after months of waiting. However, it is very important to note that these chips are not the highly anticipated Meteor Lake platform, but a refresh of the previous year’s Raptor Lake. Still, this isn’t necessarily a disadvantage, especially when you consider Intel’s competitive pricing for lower-end SKUs.

The series starts at $294, an attractive price for the i5-14600KF (Turkey prices have not been announced yet) and will be available on October 17. These processors offer an attractive upgrade path for those who already have an LGA 1700 motherboard and use a 12th Gen Intel CPU. Similar to previous year’s models, all these CPUs are unlocked, making it possible to overclock both P-cores, E-cores, and integrated graphics out of the box. KF CPUs are available for those looking to save some money, but they lack integrated graphics.

One of the most notable improvements can be found in the i7-14700K, which now has an 8+12 core configuration, resulting in 28 threads, as opposed to the previous year’s 24-thread 8+8 configuration. While the addition of four more E cores may seem minor, it’s the most notable improvement in all of these CPUs. Apart from this, there are also small increases in clock speeds.

These CPUs continue to be produced on Intel’s 10nm manufacturing process, known as Intel 7. However, they seem to offer slightly better power efficiency, as evidenced by the TDP maintained despite the increased clock speeds. Beyond the extra E cores in the i7-14700K, there are no fundamental changes to these CPUs. Essentially, they build on the foundation established by Raptor Lake the previous year, making them a viable choice for those looking to upgrade and still use a Z690 or Z790 motherboard.

A notable addition to the i9-14900K/14900KF processors is the “AI Assist” feature in Intel’s Extreme Tuning Utility. Using an Intel-trained AI model to determine the optimal overclocking profile for your system, this feature makes overclocking more accessible to novices. Intel also predicts that these chips will enable new overclocking records to be broken thanks to improvements in overclocking frequencies, higher DDR5 XMP speeds, and per-core thermal reduction.

In terms of performance improvements, Intel is pitting these CPUs primarily against the Ryzen 9 7950X rather than its own 13th Gen CPUs from the previous year. Intel claims up to 23% better gaming performance and up to 54% increase in creative workflow speed compared to the 7950X.

For those in the market for a new CPU, these 14th Gen processors will be available for purchase at select retailers starting October 17th.
