When it is discussed who is Sweden’s most successful and most popular athlete of all time, there is one name that always comes up. Namely Ingemar Stenmark.

For the 4th of December, Stenmark made a surprising debut on Instagram with a brand new account. And since then there has been a lot of activity on social media and the alpine icon has shown off a series of impressive tricks for the Swedish people.
Success on Instagram
In just a few months, Stenmark has gained almost 70,000 followers and thanks to videos where he jumps level feet up a plinth, balances on a ball with Bianca Salming and turning a tree branch into a pole vault has likes and comments pouring in. Everyone really loves getting a little daily insight into Ingemar’s life.
But many have also wondered and speculated as to why Stenmark suddenly started using Instagram in the fall of his age. Where an explanation can be the legend’s newly started investment in pole vaulting and plans to compete in the Veterans World Cup.
Breaking the silence
Now Ingemar Stenmark breaks the silence about his social media presence and reveals the truth about why he started with Instagram at 67 years old.
– There was really no ulterior motive in getting Instagram, he says to Expressen.
– You could say it was a bet.

But the ski icon doesn’t want to go into more details than that, but just wants to state that “it’s a lot of fun” to share his everyday life in the form of pictures and videos. “Stenis” was also in place during Armand Duplantis own pole vaulting gala in Uppsala on Tuesday evening and then announced whether there will be a veteran WC in the new sports venture.
– I don’t know… I don’t know if it’s a bet on pole vaulting right away. I train with a bunch of guys once a week and I think it’s a lot of fun. But I haven’t decided whether I want to do the WC or not, he says to the evening newspaper.
