A man in his 30s died last night after the shooting in Skärholmen on Wednesday evening. According to information to TV4 Nyheterna, the man had connections to the criminal Vårby network. – It’s starting to feel scary, says Marjukka Rantala, a resident of the area. It was around 8pm on Wednesday evening that the police were alerted to a shooting near the subway station in Skärholmen, which is located in southern Stockholm. Several shots had been fired, and two men were found injured at the scene after one of them himself raised the alarm about the incident. One man, who is in his 30s, later died from his injuries. According to information to TV4 Nyheterna, the murdered man has connections to the criminal Vårby network. The other man, who is aged 55, was shot. In that case, there is no known information about criminal connections. No one arrested The police have not yet been able to arrest any suspected perpetrator, and the crime scene has been cordoned off for a technical investigation. A preliminary investigation into suspected murder and attempted murder has also been launched. – We have no suspected perpetrator arrested for the crime that took place in Skärholmen yesterday, says Towe Hägg, press spokesperson at the Stockholm police, without being able to confirm the information about the 30-year-old’s connections to the Vårby network. However, they are investigating whether the incident may be connected to the ongoing wave of violence in Stockholm. – We are looking at whether it has connections or not, but that work is not finished, says Towe Hägg. “Feels worried” Marjukka Rantala, who lives in the area, finds it unpleasant that the shooting happened in the evening, and not at night. – It feels worried because it usually happens at night when you are sleeping, but at eight o’clock you might be coming from somewhere with the subway. It has been calm here, it seems, but every morning when you wake up, there has been a shooting somewhere, she says. – But unfortunately, you are a bit naive, you see on the news that it happens all the time. A 13-year-old boy tells TV4 Nyheterna that he and his friends heard the shots. – We heard shots and at first thought they were fireworks, but then my friend said it was a shooting so we just started running. We ran up the stairs, and then we saw that someone had shot, he says.
