Three people have been arrested on suspicion of the murder of the Sikh exile leader Hardeep Singh Nijjar, who was shot dead in a suburb of Vancouver in Canada last summer.

The killing caused a diplomatic crisis between Canada and India, after Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau said there were credible allegations that Indian agents were behind the killing. India, which has denied the allegations, subsequently forced Canadian diplomats to return home.

The three arrested are Indian citizens who have lived in Canada for between three and five years, according to the police.
