The new epidemiological bulletin from Public Health France indicates an increase in flu cases in several regions of France.
The Covid-19 health crisis would have almost made us forget the other epidemics which are nevertheless beautiful and still there. In particular, the flu is rife in France like every winter. In its latest epidemiological report of February 9, 2022, Public Health France, announces that the indicators are on the rise in mainland France, in particular hospitalizations and emergency care for children under 5 years old. Overseas, Guyana is entering the epidemic phase, while the circulation of the virus seems to be ending in Mayotte.
The most affected regions
“Influenza and flu-like syndrome indicators were still on the rise in Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur and Corsica and on the increase this week in Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes, Brittany and Ile de France”the statement said.
On the other hand, the figures are down in the Centre-Val de Loire and Hauts-de-France regions. For the rest of France, the number of cases remains stable.
Regarding the virology of the virus this year, Santé Publique France explains that “several viral strains are currently circulating in mainland France and a majority of them are unrelated to the strains present in the HN 2021-22 vaccine. “Nevertheless, specialists point out that: “However, the antigenic characterization data for viruses of the H3N2 subtype do not exclude that the 2021-22 vaccine retains some efficacy against strains genetically distinct from the vaccine strain. It should be noted that these in vitro data are to be interpreted with caution and do not make it possible to anticipate the level of overall effectiveness of the influenza vaccine that will be achieved during this season.
