According to figures from Public Health France, three regions passed this Wednesday, November 29, into the pre-epidemic phase of the flu. A first so early in the year.

While the flu vaccination campaign is currently in full swing, cases are gradually increasing according to the latest bulletin from Public Health France. In this context, three regions have already been placed in the pre-epidemic phase.

The flu is making a comeback in France

These are the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes, Île-de-France and Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur regions, in which the flu seems to be making a comeback even before the arrival of winter. This is the first time this season that the orange level has been activated in mainland France. “This increasing trend was more marked in community medicine and concerned all age groups but particularly those under 15 years old. Virological data was also on the rise in community medicine and hospitals. indicates SpF.

For its part, Mayotte has remained in the epidemic phase for two weeks.

A call for vigilance is launched

During the week observed, “Bronchiolitis activity in children under two years of age was increasing in the city and in hospitals. An upward trend in most indicators was observed for Covid-19., added the public agency. Faced with this situation, the authorities fear a triple epidemic of influenza-Covid-19-bronchiolitis, like last year, and are calling for vigilance.

It is therefore particularly recommended that the French apply barrier measures (hand washing, ventilation, masks if you are sick) and to be particularly vigilant in the presence of children under 2 years old, to prevent bronchiolitis.

Dr. Gérald KIERZEK, emergency physician and medical director of Doctissimo, specifies that, even if the flu is often mild, it can also lead to serious complications, even death in the elderly or frail people with an excess mortality of around 12,000 death in a few weeks of epidemic.

The authorities also remind that vaccinations against flu and Covid “which can be concomitant”, are currently available and widely recommended for elderly people or people with risk factors. The flu vaccination campaign will end on January 31.
