Gang leader Rawa Majid has been imprisoned in Iran but is now free and hiding near Afghanistan, his father tells Aftonbladet.

– He is like a ghost.

The former leader of the splintered Foxtrot network, Rawa Majid, also known as the Kurdish Fox, is wanted internationally for incitement to murder and particularly serious drug and weapons crimes. He has been on the run abroad for several years.

The police have been able to track him through activity on social media, but suddenly one day last fall, Majid disappeared from the radar.

– It coincided with journalists reporting that he had been arrested in Iran. Since then it has been quiet, Jale Poljarevius, head of intelligence in police region Mitt, previously told UNT.

Imprisoned in Iran

In an interview with Aftonbladet on the spot in Iraqi Kurdistan, the gang leader’s father now confirms that his son was arrested after he tried to enter Iran without a passport. He is said to have been imprisoned for a large part of the past year, but is now free.

– The last conversation was a month ago. Then he said: “I’m out now and I’m happy. I am outside Iran”. Where had he gone? I do not know. When I asked him, he said: “I am close to Afghanistan,” he tells the newspaper.

The father himself is sentenced to a suspended sentence for money laundering linked to his son’s drug dealings. Majid’s mother is also convicted of the same crime, but avoids her prison sentence.

The father, like parts of the family, is in Iraq. According to him, they are protected by police and security services.

– We have good relations with politicians and with everyone who has power here, he says.

“Cannot be defended”

According to the father, Rawa Majid says he has entered a road where he cannot reverse.

– Sometimes he says it’s not my fault, everyone is against us, we have to defend ourselves. But it cannot be defended. It is other innocent people who suffer the most.

What do you think should happen to your son?

– After all, he is my son and I still have great love for him. It’s my first child. I feel sorry for him. Perhaps the best thing would be for him to be in prison, perhaps in Sweden, and receive his punishment for what he has done.
