Indigenous youth in focus at the UN forum: “Shows that they care”

Nils Joel Partapuoli from Sáminuorra is participating for the first time and he thinks it will be exciting.

– There are a lot of people here, there is a lot going on and there will be a lot of work, he says.

The UN’s permanent forum for indigenous issues is being organized for the 23rd time and will take place between 15-26 April, where indigenous representatives from all over the world will gather.

The theme for this year is “Enhancing Indigenous Peoples’ right to self-determination in the context of the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples: emphasizing the voices of Indigenous youth”.

Nils Joel Partapuoli thinks that the focus is on indigenous youth.

– It shows that those in power care about what we younger people have to say, he says.
