A new trade show and networking event aims to help local businesses and industries kick start their marketing for 2024.

The Brantford Business Trade Show will be held Jan. 24 at the Affinity Conference Center in Brantford.

“Digital marketing is getting tougher because we’re all on it. We’re all posting and sending emails,” said Sam Gernhart of Clarity Marketing and Design, which is putting on the show. “We are seeing success with trade shows and networking events now that people can get out and meet people who are on their social media.”
Gernhart said it’s getting harder to have social media and email newsletters be as successful as they were, especially during the pandemic.
“It’s hard to stop the scroll and get their attention,” she noted. “We are seeing more traditional marketing tactics becoming more popular and working.”
People working at home, or businesses with small teams, can benefit from networking events by getting out and learning about other local businesses, and growing a support network with like-minded people, Gernhart said.

Businesses of all sizes were challenged in 2023.
“The feedback I’ve been getting is that businesses were doing worse in 2023 than they were during COVID,” she explained. “During (the pandemic) people had money and the cost of living wasn’t as expensive as it is now. With housing and food costs, people don’t have the money to spend.
“We’re all crossing our fingers that 2024 is an amazing year. Through events like this and other community events, hopefully that can help businesses grow their own network, clients, and customers.”
The Brantford Business Trade Show will run from 1 to 5 pm, followed by a business after hours networking event from 5 to 7 pm at the Affinity Conference Centre, located within TownePlace Suites by Marriott at 30 Fen Ridge Ct. in Brantford.
The event is free for the public to attend.
