It was following an inspection by the Regional Health Agency of Normandy that the recall of patients was requested from the dental center. Indeed, several shortcomings relating to hygiene were observed.

“Several shortcomings, likely to jeopardize the safety of care”

Going to the dentist is no picnic. But when the hygiene of the dental office is not impeccable, there is more to worry about. This is the misadventure experienced by Rouen patients at the dental health center located at 3 rue du Général-Leclerc. The establishment was checked by the Normandy Regional Health Agency, which revealed “several shortcomings, likely to jeopardize the safety of care” and especially “on hygiene rules“, explains the body in a press release dated January 31, 2022.

    Reminder of all patients

ARS Normandie explains that it immediately put the center on notice to put in place corrective measures to remedy the malfunctions observed and the dental health center “undertook to carry them out without delay”.

A counter-expertise has since revealed “the return to a secure functioning of the structure and the fulfillment of the commitments made by the manager”. The health authority nevertheless demanded that all patients at the center be informed of the problem “due to low risk of transmission for hepatitis B virus (HBV) and very low for hepatitis C virus (HCV) and HIV”. They were all invited by mail to go to their doctor for the prescription of a screening.

The dental health center has also made a telephone platform available to answer questions (0805 293 000 from Monday to Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 6 p.m.) and to guide people who do not have a general practitioner.

    Avoid recurrences

To avoid the occurrence of other situations of this kind, a general letter will be sent by the ARS to the various professionals in the sector. He will remind them”their ethical and regulatory obligations in terms of compliance with good hygiene practices and the prevention of ailments associated with dental care, as well as the penalties incurred in the event of default” insists ARS Normandy, which makes the link with the charter of good practices for oral care designed by the Ministry of Solidarity and Health, in partnership with the national order of dental surgeons.
