In a new game on Steam you have to rob a bank, but you’re a turnip

Turnip Boy Robs a Bank was released on Steam last week. The bizarre name is also reflected in the game, because as a little turnip you have to rob a bank to save your vegetable world. The game is perfect for fans of bad puns and fast-paced gameplay.

What is Turnip Boy Robs a Bank?

  • After Turnip Boy Commits Tax Evasion, the sequel Turnip Boy Robs a Bank was released last week
  • As a little turnip you have to rob a bank
  • You can find different weapons and unlock gadgets
  • The gameplay loop is based on rogue-lite games
  • Within a certain time limit you can explore the bank and make as much money as possible
  • After every run you will find new secrets and you can also upgrade yourself
  • The game benefits from the shortness of the runs. Depending on the upgrade, a run only takes a few minutes and you can always upgrade something. The game is also good for in between because, unlike its counterparts in the genre, it is not incredibly difficult.

    Shooting and robbing vegetables

The gameplay is most comparable to something like Enter the Gungeon. Inside the bank you have a certain amount of time in which you can explore everything. With melee and ranged weapons you can defeat bosses and guards in the bank from a bird’s eye view. If you bring found weapons back to the base, you can sacrifice them to unlock new starting weapons.

Similar to Enter the Gungeon, the weapons are of a bizarre nature. You have cactus guns, pineapple rocket launchers or a frog that shoots bubbles. Discovering these new weapons is fun, especially there are lots of Easter eggs there.

Aside from just shooting, you should of course also make money. To do this, you rob hostages by shaking them like a school bully, or you break things and collect the money. Later upgrades will also allow you to open safes with C4 or a laser.

You can spend the money in the base after each run to buy new gadgets for exploration or to upgrade your turnip. Compared to other rogue-lites, the game is on the shallower side, and the gameplay is quite relaxed apart from one boss.

    Charming characters and bad puns

But the big highlight of the game is the charm, which is bursting at the seams. The animations of your own turnip and the many NPCs in the bank are bursting with slapstick humor. When the turnip runs and stumbles, you just have to laugh.

The side quests and the associated dialogues are also fantastic. If you’re a fan of bad puns about vegetables and food, then you’ve found a real gold mine here. When a little cake tells us about its life experiences and also says that it is already 1 day old, then you just have to smile.

For fans of the first part (Turnip Boy Commits Tax Evasion), there are still many recurring characters and a lot of allusions to previous events. However, you can also play the game without any problems without any prior knowledge.

The community on Steam also seems to love the game. With 381 reviews on Steam, 96% of them are positive. The reviews particularly praise the charm and humor.

  • Snek: If you liked the look of the first game and are a fan of faster gameplay, you will like this game! It has a lot of fun Easter eggs and interactions.
  • Flashfal: Actually more fun than Payday 3
  • NicoPlaysIndies: Robbing a bank has never been so fun
  • The comments ironically mention Payday 3 and that Turnip Boy is the better game. Payday 3 disappointed many fans of the series last year: Payday 3 was one of the most wanted games on Steam – now the shooter is failing badly, fans are complaining and are disappointed
