Ice hockey: Deadly own goal when Pittsburgh was about to equalize: “Just saw that on video”

It was at a 2-3 deficit at the beginning of the third period that Pittsburgh received a pending expulsion and picked out their own goalkeeper. Kris Letang circled in his own zone and dropped the puck back to Evgenij Malkin.

Here things went completely wrong in the collaboration between the stars.

Malkin wasn’t quite ready for the pass, threw the stick out and accidentally directed the puck into his own goal, a puck that would otherwise have gone wide.

– Oh, my God, Letang could be seen exclaiming in the broadcast.

“It was crazy”

Since own goals are not recorded in ice hockey, Lawson Crouse, who was the last Arizona player to touch the puck, got the goal.

– I have not seen anything like it, at least not live, says the American commentator in Viaplay’s broadcast.

Alex Kerfoot, who scored 3-2 for Arizona, had a similar reasoning.

– I’ve only seen such a thing on video from a match before, but I haven’t played in a match myself where it happened. It was crazy, says Kerfoot according to AP.

Arizona snapped an 11-game losing streak against Pittsburgh dating back to 2017.
