“I would never have dared to do that before”

She changed cross-country skiing to biathlon and became the best in the world.
Now Magdalena Forsberg reveals the big life change after her career.
– I realized that life is not forever, says “Magda” in an interview with Villalivet.

When talking about Magdalena Forsberg so you talk about one of Swedish sports’ greatest of all time. And also one of the most popular athletes in our country.

Forsberg’s career

Six World Cup golds, two Olympic bronzes and winners of the overall World Cup six years in a row speak for themselves. You can safely say that the switch from cross-country skiing to biathlon at the age of 26 was extremely fortunate for “Magda”.

A clear proof of her great popularity with the Swedish people is that Forsberg won the prestigious Jerring Prize four times during her career. No other Swedish athlete has won that award as many times as the biathlon icon.

“Just to drive”

She also doesn’t think it was particularly difficult to leave the successful sports career behind and move on in life.
– It wasn’t difficult at all, I had new goals, I wanted to have children and try to work with something else. And as for the training, it was a routine after all these years. I know that moving makes me feel good. Today, my driving force is to be able to jump on all the fun adventures in life, even though I’m getting older, says Magdalena in an interview with the magazine Villalivet.

Forsberg has a completely different outlook on life today compared to her glory days as an elite athlete.
– It’s so much more fun if you can be a little childish and dare to try new things. Today, I’m more of a yes-than-no-sayer, you don’t always have to wait for the perfect opportunity – you just have to drive, she admits.

Magda’s life decision

The big life change came five years ago when Magdalena Forsberg learned that she had a tumor on one of her kidneys.
– I realized that life is not forever, you can’t count on there being something “then”, but you have to take care of the here and now, she says in the interview.

After eight long weeks of nervousness and worry, the doctors announced that the tumor was benign. The nasty incident made Magda appreciate life more and today she always tries to dare to try new things.
– I was much more careful before, to be part of “Let’s Dance”, I had never dared to do that before, for example, she says to Villalivet.

Forsberg appeared in the TV4 program in 2019 and together with the dancer Tobias Karlsson they managed to come second. During the winter, the duo toured Sweden with their performance “The Motivational Show”.
