Huawei P50 Pro review

In the Huawei P50 Pro review, we take a look at the box contents, camera features and the overall performance of the phone.

I’ve been using Huawei’s new flagship P50 Pro for about two weeks. In this video, we will look at the features of this phone, but more importantly, what it offers us in terms of user experience.

Box contents

The phone comes with a box that highlights the rear camera array. When you open the box, of course, you encounter the P50 Pro. It feels like a premium product from the very first contact. A card that highlights Petal Search, Phone Clone and AppGallery applications, which the company focuses on, and a user manual that we have never read, an adapter with 66 Watt supercharge support and of course a Type C cable are also included in the box. The box also includes a transparent cover.

Design

Huawei P50 Pro design uses metal frame and glass alloy like many flagships. With a weight of 195 grams, it has a lighter design compared to the P40 Pro and Mate 40 Pro. It has a large but ergonomic design that is comfortable enough to use with one hand. The most striking aspect of the design is of course the rear camera array. These two symmetrical circles give the phone a stylish look. On the front, we see a single camera this time. Classically, the on-off and volume keys are located on the right side. This time, the sim card slot is located at the bottom with the speaker grille and just to the left of the Type C port. By the way, this time a dual stereo system is used on the phone and the sound quality of the phone is quite successful.

Display features

The phone, which is water and dust resistant with IP68 protection, has a 6.6-inch OLED screen. This screen, which is 1228 x 2700 pixels, has a refresh rate of 120 Hz. We have a successful screen with 300Hz press response and these features, and it flows like butter in both daily use and games. Since an OLED screen is used, you can also use the always-on feature. Again, as we mentioned in our Huawei Mate 40 Pro review video, you are also allowed to choose different animations.

Of course, for battery performance, you can change both the resolution and the refresh rate from the screen properties. In addition, the color saturation and black balance of the phone, which also supports HDR 10 +, makes the content you watch much more natural. The phone, which also has features such as face recognition, of course, has a fingerprint sensor on this screen. Both face recognition and this sensor work extremely fast.

Equipment

Huawei P50 Pro comes with Snapdragon 888 processor. Along with this 8-core processor, the phone has 8 GB of RAM and different storage options according to your preference. The model we use is the 256 GB version. Of course, if you wish, you can expand the storage area with a nm card. There is no 5G support on the phone. Although there is no 5G in our country yet, if you go abroad frequently, it is useful to consider this.

The phone, of course, has a high level of performance with this hardware. I have never encountered a stuttering problem both in games and in daily use. Considering that it is already a flagship, such a problem would be extremely strange for this phone.

Camera features

On the camera side, Huawei competed with itself again. P50 pro has a quad camera system on the back. The main camera of the phone has an aperture of f1.8 and has a resolution of 50 MP. It has a 40 MP monochroma lens with f1.8 aperture, a 13 MP wide-angle lens with f2.2 aperture, and a 64 MP telephoto lens with f3.5 aperture.

The values of the telephoto lens are much improved. With features such as focusing and optical image stabilization, you get very good results even in photos you take from long distances. The phone also has a zoom feature of up to 100X. The company, which is already very good at photography, has again achieved an expected performance with the P50 Pro. The photos are very natural. When you take black and white photos with a monochroma lens, you get amazing results. I have to say that the phone is very successful in terms of both contrast and sharpness in the photography part. Also, Portrait mode works very well.

Huawei P50 Pro review

Even in wide-angle photos, the results are very sharp, there is no problem such as blurring at the edges. Along with night mode and macro modes, we have one of the phones that take the best photos. Taking photos with the phone is very enjoyable and makes you feel it at every opportunity.

You can shoot 4K 60 FPS video on the phone. I found the video performance quite successful in terms of stability. This stability is lost when you zoom in, but if you fix it, you can get good results. When you zoom in, the problem of switching between lenses continues on this phone as well. On the front of the phone is a 13MP camera with f2.4 aperture. It is possible to shoot 4K 60 FPS videos with this camera, which has features such as wide angle and autofocus.

Battery performance

The P50 Pro has a 4360mAh battery. This battery is very well optimized and takes a day off very comfortably. In addition, you can charge over 70% in half an hour thanks to the 66 Watt fast charging adapter that comes in the box. Apart from that, there is also support for 50 Watt wireless charging.

Interface and Google services

Huawei P50 Pro comes with EMUI 12. With this new version, many innovations have been made on the usage side, especially the notification bar. Just like on iOS phones, when you swipe down from the right of the screen, you reach the control panel, and when you swipe from the left, you reach the notification screen. The control panel is customized according to the Huawei ecosystem and provides great convenience if you are using other devices. Apart from all other features, innovations such as folder size adjustment have also been made.

Huawei P50 Pro review

As you know, Huawei phones do not have Google apps. However, you can use many popular applications such as Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and Messenger with 3rd party applications or apk files without any problems. On the other hand, it is unfortunately not possible to use specific programs such as Youtube Studio.

The Huawei market continues to grow, but you still need to download many popular games as apk. The thing I dislike the most about the market is that it contains advertisements. On the other hand, with features such as Petal Maps and Petal search, the company has well established its own system. Of course, let’s not forget the Huawei Share feature. If you are using one of the Huawei Matebook models, this system really provides you with a great convenience.

CONCLUSION

As a result, the Huawei P50 Pro has features that will satisfy users who want a high level of performance, and of course, camera performance. As I said, taking pictures with this phone is really enjoyable. Of course, it is difficult to say anything about the price due to taxes and economic conditions, but it earns well and if you are looking for a high-end phone, I can say with peace of mind that it is one of the models you should look at.
