hospitalizations return above the threshold of 30000

The number of hospitalizations due to Covid has risen above 30,000 for the first time since the end of 2020, but that of patients in critical care units is falling slightly, according to official figures published on Tuesday.

The laboratories recorded 501,635 cases of contamination in 24 hours, a record level, but to smooth out the statistical jolts, we must consider the daily average over seven days, which is stable compared to the day before with 366,000 cases.

The still high level of the number of contamination results in an influx of Covid patients in hospitals, which recorded 3,842 new admissions in 24 hours.

A total of 30,189 Covid patients are currently hospitalized (29,748 on Monday), a level that is approaching the peak recorded in November 2020.

On the other hand, the figures for critical care, which receive patients with the most serious forms of the disease, confirm a decline.

These services are currently treating 3,741 people (3,776 on Monday).

If it is much more contagious than its predecessors, the Omicron variant also gives fewer severe forms, which is reflected in particular by shorter passages in hospital and less frequent admissions to intensive care.

Hospitals have recorded 364 deaths from Covid-19 in 24 hours, bringing the total death toll in France to 129,489 since the start of the epidemic.

While the vaccination pass came into effect on Monday, 53,857,474 people received at least one injection (i.e. 79.9% of the total population) and 52,534,085 people have a complete vaccination schedule (i.e. 77.9% of the total population). In addition, 34,301,653 people received a booster dose.
