The police raided Hornsgatan on Södermalm at 01:30. A National Task Force ladder truck had driven onto the pavement with the front end of a property.

One floor up, the window of an apartment was sawed open with straight cuts.

– I was out and saw this strange car. Everything was just very mysterious. I didn’t see them roll up the window. The hole was already there, says an eyewitness.

According to information given to Aftonbladet, the national task force has been active scouting and heightened preparedness for strikes in Stockholm in the past week. Patrolling on motorcycles has taken place in several locations.

Attracted attention

The operation during the night of Friday attracted attention among young people in student caps and other passers-by.

No painted police cars were present.

– It was an ordinary passenger car with dust on the roof that was connected to the step car. It was the same people who got into the cars and they left at the same time, says the eyewitness.

The officer on duty at Stockholm Police’s regional command center, who normally comments on ongoing operations, refers all questions to the police authority nationally.

“Serious crime”

Sofia Hellqvist, press secretary at the police’s national media center, is tight-lipped about the crackdown.

– What I can say is that we have an ongoing case linked to serious crime. It’s police officers doing their job. We will not be able to say more about the case tonight, she says.

To Aftonbladet’s question whether the public needs to be concerned, Sofia Hellqvist answers no:

– There is no danger for third parties.

Säpo’s press spokesperson Fredrik Hultgren-Friberg comments on the crackdown as follows:

– The security police know that there has been an operation, but we must refer to the police authority for more information.

In the early hours of Friday morning, masked and unmasked police officers continued their work in the apartment with the sawn-off window.
