“Hope it stays whole!” 30-ton city crane replica on its way to Utrecht

Hope it stays whole 30 ton city crane replica on its
For hundreds of years it was a defining feature of the city center of Utrecht and indispensable for trade: a wooden city crane with a large boom that stood at the Ganzenmarkt from the 15th century. With the colossus, goods that had been transported over the water were hoisted to the side.

The wharves in Utrecht are still a reminder of the city’s trading past, but the associated city cranes have all disappeared over time. The Bouwloods Foundation therefore wanted to breathe new life into this historic symbol. In recent years they have turned it into a learning project for people who find it difficult to get a job.

Unfortunately, a return to the Ganzenmarkt was not an option. Instead, the crane will now be placed at the Monica Bridge in Utrecht.
