Hogwarts Legacy: Hogwarts Legacy is eagerly awaited by fans of the Harry Potter universe, but also by players looking for an excellent immersive video game with great ambitions. This open world RPG is really starting to be long overdue, especially since its release date has been pushed back. Nevertheless, the machine seems to be finally running, and Gamescom 2022 was an opportunity to find out a little more. A new trailer has particularly focused on black magic, and the content of the various editions, which had leaked, has been formalized. They are also available for pre-order for those in a hurry.

Hogwarts Legacy pre-orders are available

The studio confirmed it during Gamesom 2022, three editions are offered, namely a standard edition, a Deluxe version – digital and physical – and a Collector’s edition – available in physical only. Players who opt for the Deluxe or Collector versions will be able to discover the game three days before its official release thanks to early access. The Deluxe and Collector’s editions are already available for pre-order at Amazon. The Deluxe Edition costs between €70 and €89 depending on the platform, and the Collector’s Edition is officially priced at €300 – although Amazon lists it at over €330 at the moment.

Hogwarts Legacy: bewitching environments revealed

The studio Avalanche Software has revealed the exteriors of the game through an ASMR video – acronym for Autonomous Sensory Meridian Response, or Autonomous Meridian Sensory Response in French – of more than twenty minutes which was unveiled. As a reminder, an ASMR video is a video whose objective is to relax the viewer and help him fall asleep. The movements in the frame are slow and deliberate, the sound is calm and soothing. The videographer can read a book, whisper unintelligiblely, cook, eat or even film his beloved nibbling on a salad leaf. Here, the focus is on the sounds of nature in the game environments. “Enjoy the sounds of summer in Hogwarts Legacy as you explore beyond the castle grounds to nearby hamlets”, can we read in the description. The emphasis is on the “wilderness” side of the surroundings of the famous school of sorcery, with an alternation between several atmospheres and environments, both visual and sound. No magic on the program: just meadows, lakes, a waterfall and, in the background, Hogwarts.

All the scenes presented are taken from the game, which gives us a glimpse of the graphic quality, which promises to be just sublime, with detailed textures, beautiful reflections on the quality water, and vast expanses. The world to explore feels huge and very immersive, and it’s your chance to see the dynamic weather system in action. An ASMR video, A Rainy Spring Nighthad already been published, but focusing on night environments this time.

A character in your image

Harry Potter fans have all dreamed of being able to have a character in their own image in this fantasy universe. This will be possible, since the game begins with the creation of your avatar/character. This one is endowed with ancient magic, as rare as it is mysterious – which makes him a celebrity, a bit like Harry Potter. And, like him, he has a rather traumatic past since, in the trailer, we could see that the character had the ability to see thestrals, magical creatures that look like black, skeletal winged horses – they are only visible by those who have seen death in the face. Another interesting fact, he enters Hogwarts directly in the fifth year because his power was discovered quite late. This scenario pirouette is very interesting, since it allows you to embody a fairly knowledgeable wizard, capable of mastering many spells and with good knowledge of potions or fantastic animals.

Like every Hogwarts student, you will have to pass the test of the Sorting Hat, which will choose which house among Gryffindor, Ravenclaw, Hufflepuff and Slytherin you will belong to. A choice that will be important, since your room and your common room will be different depending on your house, with specificities for each, especially in terms of your comrades and the architecture. It is also possible that students will not react the same way with you depending on your background – some prejudices die hard. The game seems to offer some freedom of choice with dire consequences, as you can turn to the side of evil – you can even cast Avada Kedravra, the deadly killing spell. The trailer unveiled during Gamescom 2022 heavily insisted on this point, since you will have the possibility of casting unforgivable spells, such as the torture spell sore. A choice that will not be without consequences…

You will be assisted in your quest by Professor Eleazar Fig, while the powerful dark mage Victor Rookwood – who seems as extreme as Voldemort or Grindelwald – who desires to control ancient magic – like yours. To do this, he will join forces with Rannrok, the leader of a goblin rebellion. What bring a welcome political dimension, and which could induce difficult choices.

What is the release date of Hogward Legacy?

Presented during a PlayStation Showcase at the end of 2020 on the occasion of the launch of the PS5, Hogwarts Legacy: Hogwarts Legacy was supposed to be released in 2021, before being delayed to April 2022 to coincide with the film’s theatrical release Fantastic Beasts: Dumbledore’s Secrets – which was a great disappointment. Given the difficulties caused by the pandemic and by the ambitions of the title, the game was again postponed to the end of 2022, without further details – the players then hoped to have it for the Christmas holidays. Great disappointment, since it is finally February 10, 2023 that the game will land in our hands – we cross our fingers that it will not be postponed again. It will be available on PC, PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 4 Pro, Xbox Series X and S, Xbox One X and S, as well as Nintendo Switch.
