An unidentified 34-year-old man was admitted to the hospital with abdominal pain, nausea and vomiting. The patient could not tolerate any food or drink and had not been able to go to the toilet for more than 24 hours, Jam Press reported. After the interventions, the doctors found that the thing blocking the man’s small intestine was the banana wrapped in a condom.
HORMONAL ANGRY SEIZURE ENDED BADLY
The 34-year-old man ate a condom-wrapped banana during a tantrum, causing a severe intestinal blockage. A case study describing the birth control disaster associated with bananas, considered the first of its kind in the world, was published earlier this week in the journal Cureus. The patient, who was reported to have a history of depression, was able to swallow the prophylactic coated fruit in a fit of “hormonal anger”.
THE HEALING PROCESS STARTED AFTER THE SURGERY
The man, who was rushed into surgery, was discharged three days after removal of the potassium balloon, whereupon he was able to eat and defecate without any problems. “Two weeks after surgery, she was tolerating a low-fiber diet without nausea or vomiting,” the report wrote. “She has returned to normal bowel movements and her pain is well controlled.”
IT WAS THE FIRST EXAMPLE IN THE WORLD
“He continued to support normal bowel patterns and diet at six months. He was able to slowly resume his active lifestyle and had no major worries. This was the first known instance of someone swallowing a banana in a condom, according to the study. Small bowel obstructions are rare and are usually caused by “ingestion of drug-filled condoms to engage in illicit drug trafficking,” the authors noted.
But this isn’t the first time someone has swallowed an unusual object. Doctors were stunned earlier this month after discovering a 4-year-old boy’s “colic” pain was caused by a magnetic wristband he swallowed.
