Jack Gleeson plays a hitman alongside Liam Neeson

The land of saints and sinners is the island of Ireland, home of Neeson, Gleeson and their co-stars Ciarán Hinds (The Terror), Kerry Condon (The Banshees of Inisherin) and Colm Meaney (Star Trek Deep Space Nine). The film is set in the 1970s when a number of IRA terrorists are fleeing Northern Ireland for the neighboring republic. In a small village, their paths cross with a hit man (Liam Neeson) who wants to retire. Jack Gleeson plays a younger colleague of Neeson’s character.

Directed by Robert Lorenz, with whom the Taken star has already implemented The Marksman – The Sharpshooter.

Jack Gleeson in In the Land of Saints and Sinners

With Leather jacket, mustache and dark brown 70s hair Gleeson fits right into the picture of the historical thriller. In the Land of Saints and Sinners premieres at the Venice Film Festival. In a few days you will be able to read here on Moviepilot what you can expect from the film and how Jack Gleeson fares alongside the Irish acting legends.

The thriller currently has no German start date.

The Game of Thrones star will also appear in a series

As Joffrey, Gleeson was part of the Game of Thrones cast between 2011 and 2014. At the Crimson Wedding in Season 4, his evil tormentor was dumped. After that, he mostly disappeared from the scene. Gleeson studied philosophy and theology in Dublin.

Only since 2020 has he occasionally appeared in front of the camera in small roles. In the Land of Saints and Sinners is a big step towards a comeback, with another in production. Gleeson plays in the German-British Remake of Enid Blyton’s Five Friends a character who, judging by the first image, is up to no good.

The series is produced by Nicolas Winding Refn (Drive), but you shouldn’t expect a dark and brutal version of the popular children’s detective series. In Germany, the series will probably be shown on ZDF, which produces together with the British BBC. A date has not yet been announced.
