It’s a first step in “upholding our community stewardship responsibilities” after becoming the 82nd national Bee City in November 2023, Meghan Hunter, manager of parks capital planning and forestry for the county, told The Spectator.

The designation comes with the main objectives of creating, maintaining, and improving pollinator habitats; educating the community about the importance of pollinators; and celebrating National Pollinator Week — this year from June 17 to 23, Hunter said.

Additionally, she said the county will make a point of increasing native, pollinator-friendly plants in existing gardens, and new ones, such as at Aspen Street Park, Woodslee Park and Watt’s Pond Greenway in Paris.
