Anyone who wants to move for studies, and get away very cheaply for a one-room apartment in a student town, should apply to Sundsvall. There, a one-bedroom apartment costs an average of SEK 481,000 (prices for the month of May 2023). If, on the other hand, you want to make a decision based on where prices have fallen the most, then Kalmar is the one that applies. There, prices have dropped 24 percent in one year. One-bedroom apartments have become cheaper in 16 out of 19 popular student cities. This is shown by figures from Svensk Mäklarstatistik. Expensive in Lund – but declining prices The most expensive are still Stockholm, Gothenburg, Lund and Uppsala in that order. The average house in Stockholm is SEK 3,172,000. In Gothenburg just over two million and in Lund and Uppsala just over SEK 1.8 million. In Lund, prices have dropped 13 percent compared to Uppsala, where prices have dropped 5 percent. Nevertheless, Lund is slightly more expensive if you look at the sales in the month of May this year. In Stockholm and Gothenburg, prices have decreased by around 5 percent in the period 1 April 2022 to 31 May 2023. Moderate bidding is expected Interest in small homes always increases before the start of the semester in student cities. More moderate bidding is expected this year, says Marcus Svanberg, CEO of Länsförsäkringar real estate agency. – We feel that there is still an interest. But we don’t think the demand is as strong as before because it is so much more expensive to own your home due to the interest rates, says Marcus Svanberg.
