What is the difference between marking a territory and just peeing?
– When wolves are in their territory, they usually urinate and then scratch with their hind legs as if to spread their scents, says Tom Espgård.
But just because you saw the male wolf marking a territory and saw a pair of wolves together this summer, it is not possible to completely establish that there is another territory in Skåne.
– No, we also have a theoretical part that must be fulfilled. The Environmental Protection Agency has inventory guidelines that must be checked off before it can be confirmed that there is another wolf territory, says Tom Espgård.
Two wolves together
This summer, the County Administrative Board received two confirmed sightings of two wolves walking together, which is usually the first sign that a wolf territory is being established. The area in question stretches from Hässleholm and Höör towards Söderåsen.
Since 2021, there has been a wolf range on Linderödsåsen, the first in modern times.
