“Swenny” told in The Sunday interview in P1 that he suffered from cancer and that he “has at best a year left to live”. Tonight he attends the Sports Gala and sits at the honor table.

— He belonged to this generation that came after Bob (Houghton) and Roy (Hodgson) and has done an incredibly good job as a coach wherever he has been. If you look at international assignments, he is the one who has put Sweden most on the map in football, together with Lennart Johansson possibly.

Thomas Ravelli, former national team goalkeeper in soccer, thinks it is “extremely tragic and sad” about Svenni’s illness.
— I have texted him and received a reply as well. So I hope we can celebrate him a little tonight, he says.
The athletics legend Stefan Holm, who is from Värmland just like Svennis, says that he received the news with consternation.

Later in the evening, Svennis was celebrated with applause from all the gala guests. It was an emotional moment with a standing ovation that moved Svennis to tears.
