Since SMHI issued an orange warning, Umeå Municipality has issued a call to residents in Rödäng, Västerslätt and Haga to collect sacks and sand if they need to protect their houses.
The Tvärån that runs between Rödäng and Västerslätt is known to overflow when there are high water flows and the municipality has, among other things, closed a cycle track in the area.
Melker Klingberg lives in Rödäng and has never been affected by a flood himself, but now helps other residents fill sandbags from the municipality’s newly dumped sand pile.
– The desperation of those who were affected then must be absurd now, says Melker Klingberg while shooting.
Several residents SVT spoke to who picked up sand at 3 p.m. were worried that the pile of sand would not be enough for those who were still at work.
