On Monday, King Charles III paid tribute to his mother in a brief appearance in Parliament in London. After the visit, the king set off for Edinburgh, where Queen Elizabeth’s coffin was taken, barely 30 miles from Balmoral Castle. The former queen died at the castle on Thursday, aged 96.
Elizabeth’s coffin will later be flown to London for the funeral next Monday. During the week, the public is welcome to visit the casket at the Palace of Westminster – and hundreds of thousands of people are expected to do so, which could lead to long queues.
