“About 1.8 million Ontarians have already received the updated COVID-19 vaccine this fall,” said the release, noting it takes 10 to 14 days for vaccinations to provide protection.

In the fall, the Ministry of Health provided guidance for all Ontarians six months of age and older to receive an updated COVID-19 vaccine that better protects against the Omicron XBB 1.5 variant. The updated vaccine can be received by those who have either never received a COVID-19 shot, or those who haven’t received a shot within the last six months.

Those who have had a recent confirmed COVID-19 infection are asked to wait six months after the infection before receiving their updated dose.

Appointment bookings at the health unit can be made online at hnhu.org/popup. Appointments can also be booked for COVID-19 and influenza vaccines, which can safely be received on the same visit, through local pharmacies or physicians’ offices.

According to health unit statistics posted last week, there are 20 confirmed weekly cases of COVID-19 in Haldimand and Norfolk and 28 confirmed weekly cases of influenza. The health unit reported five residents in hospital with COVID-19 and one hospitalized with influenza.
