“It’s not that it makes me sleep badly,” adds neighbor Kathryn Sisson (41). “But I just notice that it concerns me very much. These are really very exciting times.” And the tension runs extra high for Cathrien and Kathryn. They influence the outcome of the elections. Because they were both born in America and therefore have dual passports, they can vote for one of the two presidential candidates. “I’m voting for the District of Columbia,” says Cathrien. “And I for the state of Michigan,” says Kathryn. It gets especially exciting in the latter state. That’s one swingstate where it is not yet clear which candidate will walk away with the win. In previous elections, a few hundred votes could make the difference. “You have considerable influence,” Cathrien jokes. “Yes, like Michigan blue then that’s on me,” says Kathryn, laughing.
