Hanna Öberg’s first words after the incredible WC gold – point out the sick coincidence: “I’m so proud!”

Leksand extended the winning streak beat AIK

Hanna Öberg won WC gold in the distance.
Afterwards, she pointed out a crazy coincidence – which made the win even more awesome.
– I am so proud, she says.

It has not been a bed of roses for Hanna Öberg. She has had a tough season, she had a tough time at the Olympics last year, and all the talk beforehand has really been about little sister Elvira Öberg.

First words after the gold success

But Hanna Öberg started the WC with a silver on bronze, and when she entered the distance race she did so as one of the big favourites. However, Öberg had a miss on the first shot, but it didn’t matter. Hanna Öberg then shot full in three straight shots and defeated Linn Persson, who finished second.

Hanna Öberg thus wins her second individual WC gold in her career.

– I didn’t think I would have the ride, I thought it would be tough. Otherwise, I stayed in good focus. I missed one in the first but did the job all the way on the embankment. I felt quite safe, it’s big, she tells SVT afterwards.

Sick coincidence

Hanna Öberg also won Olympic gold at the same distance in 2018 – and after the new WC success, she revealed a sick coincidence.

– It is unreal. The sick thing is that I have received notifications all morning. It is exactly five years since I won that first Olympic gold in Pyeongchang. So it’s daytime! It wasn’t four zeroes today, but it was… I’m so proud of the race I’m doing today, she says.

Hanna Öberg was also jubilantly happy about the fact that she and Linn Persson contributed to a Swedish double.

– Isn’t that so cool? It is so impressive. It’s really, really strong! And she really steps up here and does it great. It’s crazy that we’re going to share the podium again here at the WC. It’s big for this team.
