Hanna Friberg reveals the food trick to pass the Vasaloppet

The influencer Hanna Friberg was one of them 50,000 who signed up for the Vasaloppet in 2023. She chose to participate partly to challenge herself, but also to show that an influencer can do more than many people think.

I felt that there was no influencer who rode the Vasaloppet, so maybe I can be the first. It was also a challenge for myself that is fun for my followers to follow. I also wanted to show myself that I can handle something so extreme, says Friberg News24.

In order to complete a 9 mile ride, it is important that the body is filled with energy. Friberg now reveals how she ate before and during the race.

Hanna Friberg: “Important to load with carbohydrates”

Already four days before the race, Friberg was careful about what she ate.

– I started carbohydrate loading already four days before. This means that you start eating more carbohydrates to have more energy during the race, says Friberg and continues:

– A week before, I also bought gel and dextrosol that you could take with you during the race for a little extra power.

During the race, Friberg didn’t experience a huge drop in energy, which she herself believes is due to the fact that she made sure to eat when she took a break. At the stops, buns and blueberry soup are offered, for example, but gulping down too much food quickly can also lead to problems during the race.

– I got stuck towards the end, so I might not have eaten as many buns if I had gone again. Maybe just eat a bun at every other stop instead of at every stop. But eating buns is really a great tip, so you don’t lose energy. If you lose energy during the race, it is very difficult to get back.

The Vasaloppet should be fun

Another factor that made the race a good experience for Friberg was that she didn’t stress. She believes that the Vasaloppet should be fun, regardless of what demands you have on yourself.

– I would say that you should see it as an excursion day. Instead of thinking about how much is left of the race, you can think about skiing for a whole day. It will be lovely weather. There will be a lot of people. I saw it more as an excursion more than a race. I thought that helped a lot, says Friberg.
