Gymnasts cleaned the beach – found pipes and “rock ring”

Leksand extended the winning streak beat AIK

Around 2,200 young athletes from 107 associations on Sweden’s west coast are cleaning the coasts from rubbish during the weekend, in a total of 22 municipalities – from Strömstad down to Höganäs.

The sports environmental organization Städa Sweden is behind the project, which is running for the fourteenth time. The aim is to keep plastic and rubbish out of the sea together, but also to engage young people.

Local sports associations that clean beaches receive a compensation to the association fund. The Engeholm gymnasts want to use their contribution for a training trip to Italy.

“A lot of small plastic”

The squad was out all morning filling several large bags with rubbish.

– There is a lot of small plastic, says Vilda Wichers.

But the group also found a large pipe, a doormat, and what at least looked like a rock ring.

In the clip, the gymnasts show what they found on the beach between Ängelholm and Magnarp.
