Guinea-Bissau: after heavy gunfire, an uneasy calm has returned to the country’s capital

Guinea Bissau after heavy gunfire an uneasy calm has returned to

In Bissau, heavy gunfire rang out on the night of Thursday, November 30 to Friday, December 1, near a barracks in the south of the city where elements of the national guard were entrenched. This detachment attempted – in the evening – to free a minister and a secretary of state who were in police custody in the premises of the judicial police before taking refuge in this barracks. The special forces attempted to attack before interrupting the operation to make way for negotiations. Calm has returned but several questions remain.
