Film screening Je’vida

At 15-16.40, Folkets cinema.

The Finnish Skolt Sami drama film Je’vida from 2023 is shown. The film describes the life of a Skolt Sami woman named Je’vida during the period when her people were forcibly assimilated into Finnish society, while following Je’vida’s life in three different periods.

Árran – the fire burns

12-4pm at the Sami residences, Gammlia.

One of the three corners is kept open. Here you can experience what it can be like to live in a Sami environment, talk about Sami history with the museum’s museum educator or test your skills in throwing a lasso.

Anniversary exhibition

At 1 p.m., Tráhppie.

Artists and artisans who showed their creations in 2014 and the next few years reflect on their artistry then and now. Among others will be Katarina Spike Skum, Lena Sandberg Johansson and Marianne Enoksson.

Inauguration of Sami week

At 12.00, Tráhppie.

The opening of Ubmejen biejvieh where Såhkie’s chairman Lena Maria Nilsson opens the week together with the chairman of Umeå municipality’s cultural committee Helena Smith.

Monday 4/3

Film screening from the Museum’s photo archive

Every day all week at 10 am at the Bio Abelli Västerbotten museum.

Films by Rickard Tegström (1909–1981) are shown throughout the week. He made several rural films and during the 1960s he made a series of attention-grabbing craft films in collaboration with the museum.

Look in the rearview mirror

Peter Steggo shows pictures from Såhkie’s 25-year history. Steggo has previously worked as a minority coordinator for the Sami in Umeå Municipality and is currently a language consultant at the Sami Language Center in Jokkmokk.

Presentation of the new nursing home

While waiting for the Sami elderly home in Ubmeje/Umeå to open in Teg’s nursing home, Anna Bergström, quality manager at the Elderly Care Administration, and Sanna Kasos, unit manager at the Sami profile unit at Teg’s elderly center, offer a presentation about the new unit.

Textile craft

Axa offers a creative moment with Sami signs. She sets out fabrics, paper, pencils, crayons and other things for the children.

Display Sami textile world

The Sami textiles are displayed together with antiquarian Annika Suomio Ulander, who shows the archive’s Sami textiles and related objects. Also on site is Lena Lundin Skott, craftsman and teacher of duodji.

300 words for snow

Johan Sandberg McGuinne is a Sami writer, translator, yoiker and teacher. He writes in several languages, including English, Southern Sami and Scottish Gaelic. Here he will talk about the Southern Sami language’s wealth of snow words.

Healthy Aging

10am-1pm (for invited seniors), Tráhppie.

Workshop on indigenous food supply is held for invited seniors in connection with a research project carried out by Umeå University and the Swedish University of Agriculture.

Literary soiree on film

At 18.00, Tráhppie.

Littfest shows its filmed literary soiree from 2023 about light and hope, in a meeting between text and specially composed music. The soár was created by artists from Sápmi, under the theme Čuovga (Light) with the aim of highlighting activist struggle in the north.

In memory of Lars Thomasson

Cecilia Thomasson Blomquist and Charlotta Thomasson, daughters of Lars Thomasson, talk about their father’s extensive work with Sami history and contemporary times, but also what role he has played for the family.

Lecture “Digitalisation of the Sámi people’s archive”

At 1 p.m., Tráhppie.

The lecture gives an insight into the work behind “Digitalization of the Sami people’s archive” and summarizes the project team’s reflections on the material and the selection that is now being made for the digitization. Some of the rich image material is shown and we talk about the exhibition that has emerged under the same name.

The performance Ruohttsot

In the performance Ruohttsot, Jasmine, dancer and choreographer, and Juhán, Lule Sami joker, explore geographical identity.

The Sámi Parliament holds a conference

Scandic Plaza Umeå.

The Sámi Parliament is holding a conference on Possible educational paths within the Sámi languages ​​and Sámi culture for young Sámi aged 18-30.

A story about a dark chapter in Sweden’s history through the eyes of the forcibly displaced. The performance is based on the book of the same name by Elin Anna Labba.

Different generations of women meet in a conversation Anna-Britta Rikko and Káren-Ann Hurri, Elin Nejne together with Rönn Lisa Zakrisson Påve, poet and spoken word artist.

Joke away with Stålka

Meet Juhán Niila, yojker, storyteller, social debater and activist for the Sami, during a workshop where you can both listen, guess and try yojka yourself.

Boy and history

12-1pm, Alva culture, building 1D, Norrland University Hospital.

Juhán Niila offers a performance where he alternates yoiks and stories from places, animals and people from the area around Jokkmokk, where he has his roots.

Pub night

Nomad Music Theatre

Nomad is a musical story about different ways of living. The performance is based on interviews that the playwright Lucia Cajchanova has done with the artists Sofia Jannok and Salamanca Taikon Gonzalez.

Launch of the report “Violence against Sami women”

The research group Lávvuo at Umeå University presents results from the research project “Violence against Sami women” which they carried out on behalf of Sámediggi/Sami Parliament in Sweden.

Álgguogåhtie publishes a book about the Umesami verbs they present.

Lectures and talks about land exploitation in Sápmi historically and in the present.
