Greta Thunberg met Zelensky in Kiev, Ukraine

Volodymyr Zelenskyy has met climate activist Greta Thunberg.
The parties met in Kiev on Thursday to talk about the consequences of the war for the environment.
– This is an extremely important signal about the support for Ukraine, said the Ukrainian president at the meeting.

On Thursday, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyj was visited by climate activist Greta Thunberg and Sweden’s former foreign minister Margot Wallström. The Swedes were on site in the capital Kiev together with the Finnish member of the EU Parliament Heidi Hautala and Ireland’s former president Mary Robinsson.

The four are part of the international working group that examines the consequences of the war for the environment. The parties talked, among other things, about the consequences of the attack on the Kakhovka hydropower plant.

Zelensky: “Need your help”

At the meeting, Zelenskyy talked about the need to develop measures to help Ukrainians affected by the Russian invasion. He also took the opportunity to underline the importance of the working group’s support.

– This is an extremely important signal of support for Ukraine. We really need your professional help, the president said after welcoming everyone to the meeting, according to an article on the government’s website.

Greta Thunberg, in turn, said she will talk to representatives of environmental organizations about the work of the international working group and alert others to the negative consequences of the war for the environment, according to the news agency Ukrainian form.

“I am grateful for their support for our efforts and for their clear position that the attacker must be held accountable for everything that is committed against people, nature and life in general,” Zelensky wrote on Twitter after the meeting.
