Google Assistant Voice Commands Are Now Sent to the Gemini

One of the most frustrating aspects of using the Gemini Android app as a replacement for Google Assistant on day one was having to send/send voice commands manually. Google has thankfully fixed this behavior. Voice commands to Gemini at Thursday’s launch required you to press send. When you finished a request, the vibrating microphone indicator would continue to spin before stopping after a few seconds.

Besides adding a few seconds to what should be a quick voice interaction, after living with voice assistants for several years, pressing a button to indicate you’re done feels pretty dated. It basically converted the microphone input method from speech to text.

As of Saturday, it was noticed that voice commands given through the overlay panel and the full application were sent automatically. Additionally, Gemini is much quicker at realizing when you’re done talking.
