“Goodmed, the application that takes care of you”. Launched in April 2022, Goodmed alerts users to adverse drug reactions. An innovative application that democratizes access to health.

goodmed was created by doctors from the Bordeaux company Synapse Medicine – a company that “allows healthcare professionals and individuals access to reliable and useful information on medicines” : Dr Clément Goehrs and Dr Louis Létinier, specialists in public health and pharmacology.

Respond to a “major public health issue”

The creators started from the following postulate, resulting from a 2020 study : “more than 200,000 people are hospitalized in France each year because of adverse drug reactions”. A figure partly due to self-medication, since it concerns 3 out of 4 people, according to Goodmed. And according to the application, these recurrent hospitalizations could be avoided thanks to easier and democratized access to a “reliable and useful drug information”.

For this, Goodmed relies on the expertise of the doctors and pharmacists of Synapse Medicine but also that of large institutions, such as the National Agency for the Safety of Medicines and Health Products (ANSM).

The objective was to “filling a technological gap on a major public health issue”, confides Louis Létinier to actuBordeaux.

    Simplified and personalized information

On Goodmed, the information is above all individualized. To do this, after downloading the application – available on iOS and Android for free – the user must complete his “health profile” : age, pathologies, allergies, treatments, current pregnancy, breastfeeding, etc.

Then, all he has to do is scan the QR code of the drug in question, or take a picture of it. From there, Goodmed offers a personalized sheet, indicating the potential contraindications, always in accordance with the user’s health profile. A simple color code has been set up by the application, if the card is green, the user can take the medicine; if it’s red, he can’t.

Goodmed also offers to consult the complete leaflet of the scanned medicine, the advice for use, the precautions to be taken, or even its possible reimbursement.

The application has been a great success, if we are to believe the feedback and the number of users since there are 30,000 users all over France, according to actuBordeaux.
